HOW TO GET TO CHINCHERO?

Chinchero is located 30 km or 40 minutes from Cusco.

      • To get there you must take land transport from the city of Cusco, you can take the bus from Pavitos street.

In addition, tourists can learn about the customs of the settlers.

The visit to the Textile Centers in Chinchero is free, at the end of the demonstration tourists can buy alpaca garments from the workers, or provide a tip, this is optional.

      • WALK THE ARTISAN MARKET OF CHINCHERO

This traditional market is located in the Chinchero Church square.

This market is a beautiful attraction since it continues to preserve the tradition and barter is still carried out among the inhabitants of this place.
I recommend you visit the Sunday market since it is bigger and we can find more products (fruits, vegetables, handicrafts).

      • VISIT THE CHURCH OF CHINCHERO

This church is known as Our Lady of the Nativity  or Montserrat Lady, this temple was built on the 17th century, it’s one of the buildings made on adobe that remains still in Peru.
The Church was declared as Cultural Patrimony of the Nation and also as a Historical-Artistic Monument in 1972.

The church was built on the walls of the Palace of the Inca Túpac Yupanqui.

Inside, the church stands out for its impressive murals with religious motifs. The most outstanding piece of the murals is The Virgin of Monserrat and among others such as the defeat of Túpac Amaru.

 

      • VISIT THE CHINCHERO ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

The Chinchero archaeological park is one of the main attractions of this picturesque town.

This archaeological park has 43 hectares elaborated in the Inca period.
It stands out for its beautiful platforms, Inca walls and stands.

WHAT ELSE TO SEE IN CHINCHERO?

  • LOCAL CHINCHERO MUSEUM,  its locate it in the main square of Chinchero, in this museum you will find two rooms, one exhibits pieces that were found during the excavations and displayed to the public and the other room exhibits typical costumes of the area and also paintings from the Cusco school made by Diego Quispe Tito and other artists.
  • LAGUNA DE PIURAY, is located 3.5 kilometers from the town, this place offers adventure tours  like  paddle board, that consists of getting on a surfboard and rowing with the paddle, yoga sessions are also very close from the lagoon.
